Restoration
Caring for the legacy of my own family history photographs led me to specialise in techniques for restoring old photo images and making fade-free copies. I am able to do that for clients.

Meanwhile you should take great care of your originals; I offer some notes on how to clean and store your photo archive and also looking after fine art prints.

Imaging
I can occasionally undertake professional scanning, printing, creative manipulation and restoration – for businesses, other artists, professional photographers, family historians and other private clients. Please email me to discuss your requirements.

I did the manipulation of this picture of pop star Robbie Williams for local photojournalist Terry Lee (see below).

Technical work
For craft photography, pack shots, commercial printing, digital image processing and technical advice, contact Clive Carpenter.

Shooting
I am no longer accepting shooting commissions. For a broad range of private and social photography, in studio or on location, you may wish to contact Terry Lee; visit his website. For portraiture in particular, visit Lee Images.

The gallery includes examples of my photographic work past and present. I have nearly 40 years of media experience - photography, television production and the printed page. My media background, combined with modern digital scanning technology, image manipulation applications and modern printing techniques allow me to experiment in ways not possible in the traditional darkroom.

The old adage 'a camera never lies' may be true, but that truth has always been selective and open to interpretation; similarly the photographer has always been able to perform tricks. I made this 1960 portrait by double exposure in a quarter-plate camera.

Restoration, retouching, and applying special effects filters all constitute image manipulation; it's just a matter of degree. But the more drastic changes to an image go way beyond retouching. Today, image manipulation has simply reached greater heights. My gallery has examples.
